Copper Ghalcha is a water pot that we Nepalese use in many ways. One of the basic use of Ghalcha is to put them in rituals. In most of the rituals, we need various types of vessels and mostly we prefer copper vessel. The purpose behind using copper vessel; copper is a purest metal. Ghalcha comes handy in other ways as well, such as storing water, decoration in living area, reception, passage and door. While giving ‘Sagun’, it is a ritual, we use ghalcha. We use a pair of Ghalcha during Sagun, each one of them are kept at the end of the doors.
There are different sizes of Ghalcha as well as designs. We have handmade, normal machine-made, and pokhareli. Ghalcha is not only popular in Nepal. People around the world also order them. It is one of the potential export products. Lastly, it is also called Kalash.
